This guide explains how to select the capture source, preview your content, configure a streaming destination, and start or stop your live broadcast.
1. Understanding the capture modes
Window & Screen Streamer offers three screen capture modes in the Screen tab.
Capture mode | Description |
|---|---|
Full Screen | Captures an entire selected display |
Custom Area | Captures a rectangular region you choose |
Window | Captures a selected application window |
2. How to stream a selected area
Step 1 — Open Window & Screen Streamer
Launch the application and click the Screen tab. Locate the Screen Mode dropdown and choose Custom Area.
Step 2 — Click Select Area
Click the Select Area button. Window & Screen Streamer temporarily hides its main window and displays a selection overlay covering the desktop.
Step 3 — Draw the capture region
Move your mouse pointer to one corner of the desired area. Press and hold the left mouse button, drag to the opposite corner, then release.
A selection rectangle will identify the portion of your screen to capture.
Step 4 — Adjust the selected region
Before confirming, you can drag inside the selected rectangle to move it or use its handles to resize it. Ensure that the rectangle covers all the content you intend to broadcast.
Step 5 — Confirm the selection
Confirm selection: Press Ctrl + Shift + Q
Cancel selection: Press Esc
After confirming, Window & Screen Streamer returns to its main window and shows the selected region's coordinates beside Selected Area.
Step 6 — Verify the capture
Open the application's preview to check that the desired desktop content appears correctly. Stop the preview before starting a live stream.
Step 7 — Start streaming
Open Live Stream, select your configured streaming service, and click Start Streaming (Ctrl+7).
Window & Screen Streamer will use the chosen rectangular area as the video source. Content outside the selected area will not be part of that selected-area capture.
3. How to stream a selected window
Window capture is ideal when you want to broadcast only one application, such as a web browser, presentation, media player, or software development environment.
Step 1 — Select Window mode
Open Window & Screen Streamer.
Click the Screen tab.
Find the Screen Mode dropdown.
Select Window.
Click Select Window.
The main application window will temporarily disappear, and the Window Selector overlay will appear.
Step 2 — Choose the application window
Open the application you want to broadcast.
Move your mouse pointer over the desired application window.
Window & Screen Streamer will highlight the detected window with a red border.
Check that the highlighted window is the correct one.
You do not need to click the target window. Simply hover over it.
Step 3 — Confirm the selected window
Press Ctrl + Shift + Q to confirm your selection.
To cancel without selecting a window, press Esc.
After confirmation, Window & Screen Streamer will return to its main interface and display the selected application's title next to Selected Window.
Step 4 — Preview your selected window
Click the Preview tab.
Click Preview.
Check that the selected application is being captured correctly.
Click Stop to close the preview.
Important: Avoid resizing or closing the selected application while previewing or streaming. Window resizing or closure can interrupt capture.
Step 5 — Start streaming the window
Click the Live Stream tab.
Ensure your streaming destination is configured.
Select the streaming destination using its checkbox.
Click Start Streaming (Ctrl+7).
Check the connection status.
Window & Screen Streamer will capture the selected application window and send the video to your configured streaming destination.
7. Best practices
For Custom Area, choose a region that contains all the content you plan to demonstrate. Avoid positioning private notifications or sensitive information within the captured region.
For Window mode, keep the selected application open, visible, and at a consistent size throughout the broadcast.
